Everything at Mint Designer Fashion, a vintage/consignment shop in Tenafly looks as good as new and yes, it's that "mint condition" mantra that gave Owner Simona Kornberg the inspiration for the name behind her store.

Kornberg, a Fair Lawn resident, admits she's very picky when it comes to what she sells. "It doesn't matter if something is 40-years-old or 60-years-old, you want to open it and feel like it is brand new," she said.

She said she has staked her reputation on only selling the best. "Trust is key," she said. "My customers know when they come here, they are getting the very best."

That includes bags by Chanel, among her top-sellers, as well as other designer items such as furs, belts and jewelry from such labels as Hermes, Prada, Louis Vuitton and Tom Ford. "Everything has to be an 'Oh my God,' or I won't sell it,' she said.

Accessories, she said, are big. "You can have the most amazing clothes or the best bag but they will not shine without accessories." Among her most popular items are custom and real jewelry.

When she opened in 2001 she said her goal was to create a store that was like a museum of beautiful pieces. "I never wanted to be like a regular consignment shop," she said. "Everything I sell has to have pizazz; it has to be different."

She and her now ex-husband used to own Fuga, a group of six boutiques across Bergen that specialized in European fashions so she knows what women want. A former top Israeli model, she also knows style and fashion. (She also does special orders.)

Kornberg opened Mint initially in Englewood as that is where she lived at the time and where the majority of her client base was. Eventually, as she grew, she moved the store to its current location. That was three years ago and she says she hasn't looked back.

"People either go into the City or they come to me," she said.
