TENAFLY, N.J. -- Not everyone can work with family and still stay friends. But at Celebrity Kids in Tenafly, Owners Vikki Price and Rea Epstein are not just sisters-in-laws, they are best friends.
In fact, they say, that's what's kept their store so successful.
"Our customers know that one of us is always in the store," said Price. "We do not believe in absentee management, and that is what makes us special. We love what we do, and now that grandchildren are in our lives, there will be a new generation of Celebrity Kids."
What's nice, she said, is that their "hip, happening store" now caters to new generations of past shoppers. "Moms are now grandmas, babies are now tweens and tweens are now juniors."
The store -- 25-years-old and counting -- has always been about family. The two women were both raising small children at the same time and needed to be close to home. "We looked at thriving towns within a five-mile radius of our homes, and found the perfect location in Tenafly," said Price.
The fact that they carry fun merchandise has always been a draw. Plus, having kids in the demographic they were serving meant they always knew what would cater to the fashion-forward child (or their parent/grandparent).
Another reason for their success: reasonably priced, items that are comfortable. "Plus our service is personalized and thorough," said Price. She said their toy and accessory departments have the newest, hottest and most wanted items, a plus come holiday time.
And though the hottest items change every season, right now, anything with an emoji on it is on fire. Fleece onesie cozy loungewear is trending as is fringed anything. And Superheroes are still a boy's dream.
The two women are big on using Instagram, Facebook and Twitter to announce new arrivals. "As an item comes in, it is instantly highlighted on social media, and blows out," said Price. "Anyone, moms and kids, that follows us, is always in the loop."
