The tours provide a chance for area residents to get to know this National Historic and Natural Landmark in Bergen County, which has more than 30 miles of hiking trails within its borders.

The hikes include:

  • Sunday, Jan. 10, 1 p.m.: Hikers can take a tour of “Millionaire’s Row,” where around a dozen grand estates once graced the cliff top in Alpine. Meet at the park headquarters. The cliff-top mansions were built from the Civil War days through the early 1900s. Though torn down more than half a century ago, some of the foundations and signs remain in the woods.
  • Saturday, Jan. 23, 7 p.m.: Park staff will lead a special night hike through the trails at the State Line Lookout area. Meet at the Lookout (accessible by Palisades Parkway northbound at Exit 3). The trails will possibly be lit by January’s rising full moon.
  • Saturday, Feb. 6, 10 a.m.: This tour into the park’s past will explore part of the riverfront settlement known in the 19th century as Closter Landing. The group will continue along a former wagon road to what was once a fishermen’s hamlet known as “Cape Fly Away.”
  • Sunday, March 6, 1 p.m.: The winter hikes will conclude at the visitors center at Fort Lee Historic Park. “Cliffhanger Point,” was immortalized by Pearl White, the actress famous for playing in 1914’s Perils of Pauline.
