ENGLEWOOD, N.J. -- The Bergen Symphony Orchestra, one of the preeminent classical orchestras in the county, will present its fifth season concert Saturday, Jan. 30 at the First Presbyterian Church of Englewood.

Under the direction of Woomyung Choe, the 55-piece orchestra will feature a trio of classical composers, Mendelssohn, Mozart and Beethoven, and the return of guest soloist Sookkyung Cho on the piano.

The orchestra is made up of professional musicians from the greater New York/New Jersey area. Its mission is to provide a high-quality classical music experience that will not only enhance the cultural life of the community, but also educate and encourage the next generation to love the music of the past.

Woomyung Choe, who is a musician as well as a medical doctor, is the driving force behind the orchestra.

"I enjoy bringing serious classical music, affordable to everyone, to people of all ages in the local community," he said.

The program begins with Felix Mendelssohn's (1809-47) Hebrides (Fingal’s Cave) Overture, Opus 26, written when he was 21.

Piano Concerto No. 9 in E-flat Major, "Jenamy," written by a young Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-91), will be performed by pianist Sookkyung Cho, who has been captivating worldwide audiences from New York to China with her sensitive and imaginative style.

Cho, a graduate of the Juilliard School’s Doctor of Musical Arts program, has performed at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center, Steinway Hall NY, Sarasota Opera House, Baltimore Museum of Arts, and throughout the United States, Europe and her native Korea.

Ludwig van Beethoven's (1770-1827) Seventh Symphony in A Major, Opus 92 rounds out the program with its dance-like sophisticated rhythms and famous second movement.

Tickets are $25, $20 for seniors/students and free for children up to age 17. Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance at West Violin Shop, 1402 Bergen Blvd., Fort Lee. The snow date is Saturday, Feb. 6. For more information, e-mail bergensympho@gmail.com or call (413) 446-6266, (732) 425-4375 or (201) 947-5215.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m.

The First Presbyterian Church of Englewood is at 150 E. Palisade Ave., Englewood.
