A special feature of the competition is a new, free master class that will be offered to singers accepted to audition in the preliminary round.

Vocalists of all ages may apply, according to Artistic Director Lucine Amara, who is affiliated with the Metropolitan Opera. She and Evelyn La Quaif, Verismo’s general manager and stage director, will teach the master class. It will focus on deportment, language, style and presentation for auditions.

According to the organizers, Verismo Opera’s competition is different from others in a number of important ways, such as instructive comments are given immediately after the singer has sung, and all applicants may receive the judges' original notes regarding their audition.

Preliminary auditions will take place at Bergen PAC's Drapkin Cabaret & Lounge, 30 N. Van Brunt St. from 5 - 9 p.m. Nov. 2, 9 and 16. Final auditions are in early 2016. Applicants are required to send a resume, biography, a MP3 file or a CD containing at least three arias, an 8 x 10 black-and-white photo and the application fee of $75.
