"What a success!" said Bergenfield Public Nurse Patricia August. "On behalf of the Bergenfield Mayors Wellness Campaign, I want to extend a heart-felt thank you for your commitment to making the 2016 program so successful. It was our vision to reach out to the community and encourage healthy lifestyles."

The program, which kicked off on April 3, offered free exercise programs and nutritional and stress reduction guidance. Participants who completed five weekly weigh-ins also had a chance to win a Fitbit in a raffle.

"This year our focus was on healthy eating, exercise and well-being," August said, and weight management was a component as well. According to August, 146 people signed up, 40 people completed five or more weigh-ins and the total weight loss was 137.5 pounds.

At the event wrap-up, Bergenfield Mayor Norman Schmelz randomly selected four names from a hat of participants who'd completed five weigh-ins. The winners are Mayuli Copeland, Evelin Flores, Flor Ibarra and Judith Falon.

August also thanked the program sponsors for their generosity, in either offsetting the program's cost or providing activities. These include Bergen County CHIP, West Broad Street Boot Camp, Results Acupuncture and Healing Arts, Heavenly Waters, Dr. Christopher Fisher, Blur Dragon School of Martial Arts, Bergenfield Academy of Martial Arts, Bodyworks Rehabilitation Center, and Karen Ravensbergen Healing Arts.
