ENGLEWOOD, N.J.– Englewood's Center for Food Action (CFA) plans to fight hunger at its third annual National Day of Service and Remembrance event on Sept. 11.

"We are working with supporters to build a stronger community by helping to assure that all children in our area have the proper nutrition to develop into productive and self-sufficient adults," said CFA's Director of Communication and Community Outreach, Jennifer Johnson.

This year, CFA is offering two shifts: Noon–2 p.m. and 2:30-4:30 p.m.

Children who receive free or reduced-price school meals are often left without adequate nutrition on the weekends, according to CFA.

The Weekend Snack Pack Program bridges this gap and is one of the many ways CFA is working to reduce local childhood hunger, according to the organization.

CFA hopes to assemble over 3,000 snack packs on this day. Last year CFA expanded this program and distributed over 19,000-weekend snack packs to low-income children in seven area elementary schools.

The minimum suggested donation for each participant is $45 (Children under 14 are welcome to pack free of charge).

The $45 will fund 10 snack packs, according to CFA.

There will be special activities planned for children under the age of 10.
