ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J. -- Happy Birthday to Foxy Brown of Englewood Cliffs!
The rapper turns 37 on Tuesday.
She was born in Brooklyn on Sept. 6, 1978, and raised there, and now lives in Englewood Cliffs. She is an American rapper, model and actress best known for her solo work, her brief association with the hip hop group The Firm, and many collaborations.
Brown is of mixed Afro-Trinidadian, Indo-Trinidadian and Chinese Trinidadian descent. Her father, Keith Stahler, abandoned his family when she was a small child to pursue a music career.
Brown’s albums include "Ill Na Na" (1996), "Chyna Doll" (1999), and "Broken Silence" in 2001. She performed with The Firm on their 1997 self-titled album.
Brown is known to have contentious relationships with many musicians in the hip-hop world.
In 2005 and 2006 Brown suffered a hearing loss, but continued to record without a hearing aid by having beats tapped on her shoulder. It was then that she returned to Def Jam records after Jay-Z, president and CEO at the time, signed her back to work on a new album, Black Roses. Its release has been delayed many times due to her hearing loss, surgery to correct that, and personal problems. Brown has expressed a person connection to the album, which has yet to be released, saying “There’s only one black rose. I feel that’s me.”
