Mattingly, who played first base for the New York Yankees from 1982 to 1995, turns 56 on April 20.
Mattingly batted .307 over his career with 222 home runs and 1,099 RBI. He was a six-time All-Star, nine-time gold glove winner and was named the American League MVP in 1985. His number 23 is retired by the Yankees.
After retiring, Mattingly has gone on to manage with the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Miami Marlins.
