"Someone came out of the elevator and I saw out of the corner of my eye the baby [running] towards the elevator," Poveromo said.
"I had already gotten up to grab the child but then the baby stopped in between the door and the door started to close."
That's when Poveromo's motherly instincts kicked in. She dropped everything she was holding and bolted toward the elevator, throwing herself between the doors so they wouldn't close on the baby.
Poveromo said the girl's mom was talking to the secretary, but came rushing over when she saw what was happening.
"She grabbed her daughter and thanked me," Poveromo said. "The baby fell down but she was just scared, no injuries and was happy a few minutes later."
