Alfred E. Mitchell, 87, Tenafly Resident

TENAFLY, N.J. — Alfred E. Mitchell of Tenafly died Tuesday, Dec. 8. He was 87.

He was a Navy veteran serving his country during WW II, and was employed at Public Service of Oradell. He was a lieutenant in the Bergenfield Alert Fire Co. 1, and in his retirement was an active member of Assumption R.C. Church in Emerson, prior to joining St. Therese of Lisieux R.C. Church.

He is survived by his wife Patricia (nee Joyce); his children Thomas Mitchell; Teresa Pollina and her husband Raymond; Patricia Wellema and her husband Randy; Claire Richardson and her husband Robert; Frances Sottile and her husband Robert; Joseph Mitchell; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Harry Mitchell, his sister, Phyllis Burns and her husband Joseph.

Visitation is 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13 at Frech-McKnight Funeral Home,161 Washington Ave., Dumont. The Funeral Mass is Monday, Dec. 14 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Therese of Lisieux RC. Church, Cresskill. Interment, with Military Honors, to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY.
