Charles Morgan, 28, was being held on $500,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail today following his extradition earlier this week.
Police said Morgan told the 54-year-old attendant that he was having trouble opening the outside bathroom door of the “gasoline alley” Sunoco station around 6 a.m. March 24.
When the attendant bent down to look, Morgan hit him repeatedly with the bat, they said.

The attendant fought back, despite severe head wounds, snatching the bat and scaring off his assailant.
Englewood police released surveillance images of Morgan and the getaway car.
“Although the victim and the surveillance cameras did not capture a plate number, the attendant supplied us with some important clues as to what type of work [Morgan] did and the fact that he had been a regular customer,” Torell said.
After several months, city detectives identified Morgan as their prime suspect, with help from police in Walkhill and Middletown, NY, the NYPD, the Marshals Service the county sheriff’s office, he said.
On Nov. 20, Englewood Detective Sgt. Christopher Kedersha and Detective Carlos Marte, along with the others, hit an apartment in the 600 block of East 52nd Street in East Flatbush.
Morga was brought to the 114th Precinct in Queens and booked there as a fugitive from justice.
“This was a situation where a man was almost killed for no good reason,” , Detective Capt. Timothy Torell said. “While the motive for the attack is still not totally clear, there is no doubt that Morgan’s intent was to beat our victim to death.
“He just didn’t expect the kind of fight he got from a strong-willed, hard-working guy.”
Morgan is charged with attempted murder and weapons possession.
