Joseph Parisi III (MUGSHOT PIP Police)
Officer Joseph Lanfrank was pulling his radio car out of the PIP Commission maintenance facility when he spotted the black 2010 Lexus SUV headed northbound at 1:45 this morning.
He stopped the vehicle, suspecting it had been in a recent collision, then smelled marijuana coming from inside, PIPPD Lt. Michael Coppola said.
Lanfrank had the driver, Joseph Parisi III of Englewood Cliffs, get out and eventually searched him, Coppola said.
That’s when he found four wax paper envelopes filled with heroin and two syringes, the lieutenant said. Lanfrank also found a plastic straw with white powder residue on it, he said.
Police haven’t yet determined where the damage to the SUV occurred.
Parisi was released without bail pending a hearing Tuesday on charges of possession of heroin, hypodermic syringes and drug paraphernalia, as well as operating an unsafe vehicle and having narcotics in it.
