Officers responding to the burglary call at Night’s Lounge nearly caught Victor Gabriel Ingles just before 5 a.m. Sunday, but he fled on foot, dropping most of the cash along the way, Detective Capt. Timothy Torell told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Surveillance video from the West Palisade Avenue club showed Ingles, with yellow ShopRite bags over his head and a red towel draped across his shoulder, punching in the access code on the register to open the cash drawer.

“He looked like a Superman reject,” Torell said.

Englewood Detective Chris Kedersha already had a warrant for Ingles’ arrest for failing to answer a charge of serving minors at another bar , the captain said.

A short time later, Kedersha and other officers caught up with him at his Lafayette Place apartment. They found the pair of jeans that Ingles was wearing in the video, complete with a fresh tear and drying blood, Torell said.

Ingles then led them to a church where he’d stashed a few hundred dollars that he managed to hold onto during the chase, he said.

“I’m thinking ‘Rocket Scientist’ is probably not listed anywhere on Victor’s  resumé,” Torell told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Ingles, who is from El Salvador, was being held on $37,500 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with burglary, theft and tampering with evidence.

Federal authorities have obtained a detainer for his arrest should he make bail. Deportation proceedings are likely once the Englewood charges are resolved.
