ANOTHER CVP SCOOP: A little more than a day after chasing down a second suspect in the beating of a Union City man for his cellphone earlier this month, Fairview police this afternoon nabbed a third alleged accomplice.
Jimmy Pastora Berroa, 20, Fairview didn’t participate in the May 10 beating of the 36-year-old victim at Cliff Street and Anderson Avenue after he left a local supermarket moments earlier, Capt. Vincent Bellucci told CLIFFVIEW PILOT shortly after detectives arrested him at his home.
He did, participate in the robbery, however, the captain said.
Detectives who retrieved store surveillance video identified their trio of suspects and the next day arrested Kevin Ozuna, 20, on charges of robbery and endangering an incapacitated victim.
The victim was walking to work just before 8 a.m. yesterday when he spotted a second man, 21-year-old Edwin G. Pascual of Newark, at the corner of Anderson Avenue and Walker Street, a block from the attack.
He immediately went to police headquarters.
Moments later, Officer Michael Hartmann, Capt. Brendan O’Reilly and Bellucci chased Pascual nearly three blocks before catching him in a Cliff Street backyard.
This afternoon, Fairview Detective Jose Rivas took Berroa into custody, as well.
