GARFIELD, N.J. – Two Garfield men were among five busted in a multi-agency law enforcement crackdown on drug dealing in and around the city of Passaic, authorities said Wednesday.

Sharif Irving, 35, was charged with operating a drug production facility, while Persio Lora, 22, was charged with gun possession.

Dubbed “Operation Triple Play,” the six-month probe targeted heroin, cocaine and marijuana distribution not only in Passaic but in the neighboring towns in Bergen and Essex counties, authorities said.

Seized during the operation were roughly $75,000 worth of drugs:

  • more than 2½ ounces of heroin with a street value of $5,000;
  • more than a pound of cocaine valued at $17,000 on the street;
  • more than 12 pounds of marijuana with a street value of $50,000;
  • $42,000 in suspected drug proceeds – subject to forfeiture;
  • one handgun and two vehicles.

Participating were the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, Passaic police and the Drug Enforcement Administration, with assistance from the Bergen, Essex and Hudson county prosecutors’ offices, the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office and police from Clifton, Ringwood, Totowa, Bloomingdale, West Milford, North Haledon, Woodland Park, Elmwood Park, and Garfield.

Also arrested were three other men: Pedro Mangual, 36, and Leo Perez, 33, both of Passaic, on drug possession and distribution charges and Raul Concecion, a 29-year-old ex-con from Belleville, on nine charges that primarily include possessing and distributing drugs.

A judge on Saturday ordered Concepcion and Irving held pending further court action while releasing the rest with conditions.
