The Harrison Avenue victim told police the trio tried forcing their way in just before 9 p.m. on Nov. 19 before fleeing, Lt. Richard Uram said Thursday.
Officers found a spent 9mm shell casing and bullet that was turned over to the Bergen County Sheriff's Bureau of Criminal Identification for ballistics analysis, Uram said.
The resident treatment refused treatment for a minor head injury, he said.
Garfield detectives identified three suspects: Nelson Castellon and Jimmy Garcia-Vasquez, both 19 of Ridgfield Park, and 18-year-old Jonathan Hagley of Teaneck, the lieutenant said.
Working with their Ridgefield Park colleagues, they arrested Castellon at his home on Tuesday, Uram said.
Working with their Teaneck colleagues, they grabbed Hagley as his home on Wednesday, he said.
Garcia-Vasquez was in the Bergen County Jail following a previous arrest.
A judge ordered all three held in the jail on $75,000 bail each, charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault, making terroristic threats and weapons offenses.
Police Chief Raymond Kovach thanked the sheriff’s office, as well as Ridgefield Park and Teaneck police.
