ANOTHER CVP SCOOP: A 64-year-old Israeli citizen who Tenafly police said assaulted his former business partner after breaking into his home was arrested by U.S. Customs agents and Port Authority police as he tried to board an international flight at JFK Airport last night.
Avigdor Eldan was being held at Queen Central booking pending extradition proceedings, Capt. Michael deMoncada told CLIFFVIEW PILOT shortly after noon today.
Police spoke with the 44-year-old victim at headquarters a short time earlier.
The diamond wholesaler called them just before 10 p.m. Sunday, saying that Eldan broke into the Roberts Court home through a back door and assaulted him.
He then took off on foot, the homeowner said.
Police obtained an arrest warrant for Eldan, with $75,000 bail, charging him with aggravated assault, making terroristic threats and illegal weapons possession. They also issued a be-on-the-lookout bulletin.
deMoncada said they were concerned that Eldan might try to leave the country quickly.
