PIP Police Officer Joseph Villone began chasing the white Acura after it sped by him at the Exit 2 ramp in Alpine at 105 miles an hour, Police Chief Michael Coppola said Tuesday morning.

The driver cut his lights near Tenafly, then turned off at Exit 1 onto Palisade Avenue, he said.

Villone and two Englewood Cliffs officers closed in on the car after several vehicles blocked it at a red light, the chief said.

The driver, 25-year-old Shawn S. Henry of Brooklyn, was charged with eluding and issued several traffic summonses. A judge ordered him held on $25,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail.

A passenger was later released without charges, Coppola said.
