BEYOND BERGEN: Two Queens men headed into the Lincoln Tunnel toward Manhattan were instead arrested on pot charges after a member of the Port Authority Police Commercial Vehicle Inspection Unit literally smelled something funny.
The driver, whose eyes were bloodshot and watery, “indicated that he had recently smoked marijuana” after officers approached the 2014 Ford Econoline van around 4 p.m. yesterday, the authority’s Joseph Pentangelo said this afternoon.
“A plastic bag containing less than 50 grams of marijuana was recovered in a center console under a potato chip bag,” he said.
Officers also found a silver pipe containing burnt marijuana on the vehicle floor near the passenger seat.
The passenger, 25-year-old Anatoliy Baltachi of Rockaway, “indicated he was the owner of the pipe,” Pentangelo said.
He was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
The driver, Sandeep Singh, 27, of Richmond Hill, was charged widh DWI, DWI in a school zone and reckless driving.
Both were released on Feb. 4 court summonses.
The van was impounded.
