Detective Sgts. Tom Bomengo and Ray Dilena so far have connected Frederick McDonald of Far Rockaway to six thefts involving $18,000 in cash and belongings during a two-month spree.

Video surveillance footage shows McDonald, 47, snatching a cart, pushing it outside the terminal, then throwing a bag and a carry-on from it over his shoulder and non-chalantly walking away.

McDonald took a Queens MTA bus to and from the terminal, where he trolled for belongings, Port Authority detectives said.

“He looked for unsuspecting folks not paying attention,” spokesman Al Della Fave told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

One woman made it easy for him, he said: She left her car outside the ladies room while she went inside.

“That’s what’s known as a crime of opportunity,” Della Fave said.

Bomengo and Dilena tracked McDonald to Queens, where they grabbed him in the area where he boarded the bus for the airport. Once they had him, they began tracking what was taken and how much it was worth.

McDonald is being held on $100,000 bail on various counts of theft.
