YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: Police believe a masked man who took more than $1,000 at gunpoint robbed a westbound Route 4 service station convenience store in Englewood overnight had an accomplice.
The 5-foot-2-inch gunman, who spoke with an Hispanic accent, hit the Exxon Tiger Mart in the area known as Gasoline Alley just just west of the South Van Brunt Street on/off ramp before midnight (see surveillance image), Detective Capt. Timothy Torell told CLIFFVIEW PILOT .
No shots were fired and the clerk was unharmed, he said.
“We believe there are a number of people who were in the area at the time who may be able to provide us with helpful information, such as if the suspects escaped in a vehicle or not – especially in the area of the 4 West Diner which was open at the time,” Torell said.
The suspected accomplice is more than 6 feet tall and was wearing a similar mask, he said.
“He hung back during the robbery, possibly as the lookout,” the captain said.
Officers from various area law enforcement agencies flooded the area — including a Bergen County Sheriff’s K-9 unit. The sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification collected and was processing evidence.
Anyone with information that could help the investigation is asked to call Englewood detectives: (201) 568-4875. All calls will remain confidential, Torell said.
