YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: A rookie officer patrolling the George Washington Bridge for only her third day pulled an emotionally disturbed man back from a bridge railing after he put one leg over the side — barely an hour and a half after two of her colleagues delivered a baby at the toll booths.
Police Officer Katherine Acevedo found the troubled man pacing back and forth on the south walkway around 8:15 a.m., the authority’s Joseph Pentangelo told CLIFFVIEW PILOT .
She began talking with him, but the man began walking away, he said.
Then, without warning, he put his leg over the outer railing, Pentangelo said.
The 5-foot-3-inch Acevedo grabbed the 5-foot-11-inch man, pulled him back on the walkway and restrained him until backups arrived.
He was taken to Englewood Medical Center for a psychiatric evaluation, Pentangelo said.
