YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: The second chase and crash in Bergen County overnight led to the arrest of an Englewood man and a teenage girl and the search for a second passenger.
Englewood Cliffs Officer Kyle Ust tried stopping a stolen 2007 Dodge Ram pickup with New York license plates for several traffic violations on Palisade Avenue around 4 a.m.
The driver kept going, however, and a brief chase ended when the Ram crashed near Dwight Place and Franklyn Street in Englewood, Police Capt. Daniel Morrissey said.
The driver — identified as 19-year-old Malik Lee of Englewood — was caught, Morrissey said. The girl, 17, remained in the vehicle and was taken into custody, he said.
Surrounding towns assisted in establishing a perimter, and a Bergen County Sheriff’s K9 unit responded, but the passenger remained at large this morning, the captain said.
Lee, who was on probation and wearing an ankle monitoring bracelet, was being held on $50,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail. He is charged with eluding, receiving stolen property and drug possession.
The girl was released to family pending a Family Court delinquent complaint of receiving stolen property, Morrissey said.
An investigation was continuing.
Just hours earlier, a car pursued from Newark crashed in Fairview ( SEE: High-speed chase from Newark ends in Fairview crash, two state troopers injured ).
