Video: Was car in Englewood business district ticketed with meter time left?

EXCLUSIVE: A battle between Englewood merchants and the city over metered parking outside their businesses has taken a new turn: CLIFFVIEW PILOT has obtained a video that purports to show a parking officer ticketing an SUV even though 26 minutes were still left on the meter.

Englewood meters: limits of 2 hours or less

The amateur video, shot by a municipal employee who requested anonymity, shows the officer leaning over the vehicle’s hood on North Dean Street and apparently placing a ticket below the windshield.

As the officer moves on, the videographer gets out of his car and dashes up to the meter, which shows 26 minutes left.

The North Dean Street meters, like most in Englewood’s business district, all have limits of two hours or less. That keeps merchants on their toes.

“It’s gotten so bad that the business owners have set alarm clocks to alert them when it’s time to feed the meters,” the videographer told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. “But this is something completely different.”

Mayor Frank Huttle could not immediately be reached for comment.
