Experts Agree Students May Not Need Homework

Students may not need to use the age-old excuse, "My dog ate my homework," anymore. Some experts believe that homework is no longer a beneficial byproduct of the education system, which raises the question: Is homework harmful to students? Fusion Academy explains both schools of thought.

Pros

Homework gives students the ability to look at information that was taught earlier in the day, so they can further their knowledge on any given topic. It can be a big help for students who thrive on repetition and the ability to work out problems at their own pace. Many students also find that the more problems they solve on a single subject, the easier it is to understand what they are working on.

Cons

Homework can be a nightmare for both students and parents. Completing hours of homework only to forget what you studied after the big test can be detrimental to student development. A growing number of educators and families believe dropping traditional teaching methods and focusing more on individualized in-class attention would be more beneficial.

There are arguments for both sides of the issue pressing schools around the country. On one hand homework is an opportunity for students to review material learned in class and on the other hand homework can be frustrating and as a result counterproductive when it comes to understanding a topic.

The consensus that homework should take a backseat to simply discussing topics in the classroom among peers and faculty is a growing thought. Teachers in high school and middle school have an easier time helping students engage and actively participate, which leaves less room for error and frustration.

Fusion Academy eliminates stress by allowing students to complete their homework on campus under the supervision of their teachers. For more information about Fusion Academy click here .
