The performance was the culmination of a year-long process.

The Creating Original Opera Program is produced at D-E through an educational partnership with New York's Metropolitan Opera Company.

"Our production went very well," said public relations team member and fifth-grader Brook Sonkin. "We learned that cooperation can lead to success.

"During the rehearsals leading up to the final performance on Thursday night, we found that we were worrying that the opera wouldn't pull together. In the end, everything worked out because everyone worked hard to show what they learned."

"The audience was very impressed and inspired," PR team member Anya Ganeshan added. "After our dress rehearsal, we even heard our original songs being sung later by younger D-E students. Every member of this company was very proud of their work and learned to make the best of opportunities they were given."

D-E Lower School music teacher Mary Heveran said, "This was the 30th anniversary year for the Creating Original Opera program at Dwight-Englewood. This year's fifth-grade class of only 32 students did an absolutely wonderful job of working together"
