Students from an Englewood art school are exhibiting their work at a Philadelphia gallery on Saturday. One River School of Art + Design in Englewood chose 11 students from its roster of 300 to exhibit at The Savery Gallery.
The gallery will host the free, pop-up Art Effect exhibit for one day only, Nov. 5 from 5 -8 p.m.
Art Effect will feature more than two dozen works by the teen students, some of whom will be on hand for the exhibit.
One River School of Art + Design is the first in a new, national network of franchised art schools to launch with the mission to develop the "next generation of Basquiats and Warhols," according to an August New York Times article.
“I was so fortunate to have access to high-caliber education in the arts from a very young age. It was transformative for me then, and those courses at a young age also absolutely helped shape my career path," said Tory Savery, director of Savery Gallery. "One River School offers the same outstanding opportunities I had, to suburban youth who might otherwise go without. Savery Gallery’s mission is to exhibit artists making serious and innovative work across all disciplines, and we are always looking for new voices and new ideas. And with One River School bringing new artists into our community, it is a perfect collaboration."
Since 2012, One River School’s innovative art programs and exhibits have introduced kids and adults to exceptional, creative learning experiences.
“Our interactive process focuses on current concepts, and celebrates the most important artists and themes of the last 50 years,” said Founder and CEO Matt Ross. “Simply, our proprietary method delivers an experience that changes people’s lives.”
Ross, the former founding CEO of School of Rock, will open another One River School in Allendale, and will soon announce a number of franchise agreements across America, including the Philadelphia area.
The featured teen students for Art Effect were selected based on quality of work and level of commitment to personal growth. Aside from the show in Philly, they exhibited in in Boston on Oct. 8 and head to New York City Dec. 10-11.
“We wanted to test the ‘effect’ we could have on motivated young artists by creating an audacious goal, and challenging them to make the best artwork of their lives,” explained Ross. “As an educator, I’ve seen that we have helped them cultivate new ideas and techniques that will serve them for their lifetime, and they have produced some very impressive new artwork as a result.”
During the Art Effect exhibit on Nov. 5, Ross will provide curator presentations and discuss the One River School concept, while its young artists will talk about their work and immersive experiences at the school.
