Extreme Flooding Shuts Streets In Hackensack, Maywood, Elsewhere

Flooding was so bad Friday that several streets around Bergen County were closed.

Streets surrounding Hackensack High School were particularly bad, including First Avenue.

Among the streets closed in neighboring Maywood:

  • Essex Street at the Hackensack border;
  • E. Spring Valley Avenue at the Paramus border;
  • Hergessell Avenue from Central to Brook avenues.

In Bogota, River Road and Elm Avenue was closed. 

In Fort Lee, Route 1 North by North Avenue was shut down.

So was DuBois Avenue in East Rutherford, where firefighters rescued stranded motorists by boat. VIDEO: First responders in several towns -- including East Rutherford -- rescued motorists during flash flooding caused by Friday's afternoon rainstorm.
