Arrest solves string of Englewood car burglaries

A hospital employee who saw Jermein Russell, 35, getting into the 2008 Beamer called police, who quickly made an arrest, Police Chief Arthur O’Keefe said.

Charging him in the other break-ins could prove difficult.

“He wasn’t cooperative,” one officer told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

“The public needs to understand that, in most cases, vehicle burglaries are crimes of opportunity,” O’Keefe cautioned.

“People are forever leaving valuables such as iPods, laptops, cash, jewelry, backpacks, etc., in plain view for criminals to see as they creep around a neighborhood,” the chief said. “Often the vehicles are even left unlocked.”

Russell posted $10,000 bail and was released pending an Englewood Municipal Court hearing.
