BEYOND BERGEN: A DWI driver was twice the legal limit when he crashed a rental car at the National Car facility at Newark Airport overnight, Port Authority police said.
Jeffery D. Black, 38, of Califon was standing outside the 2016 Nissan, whose front end crumpled when it slammed into an exit barrier around 1:30 a.m., the authority’s Joseph Pentangelo said.
He was “unsteady on his feet, swaying,” smelled of alcohol and “admitted he had been drinking” before failing a field sobriety test, Pentangelo said.
The vehicle was towed back to National.
Black, who wasn’t injured, was charged with DWI.
