Stretch of Bergenline closing for weeks

Bergenline Avenue between 31st and 34th streets in Union City will be closed during business hours for several weeks while utility workers replace a 20-inch gas main. Which can only mean one thing: 32nd Street near Bergenline will be even thicker with traffic than usual.

The repair work will begin “on or about” Monday and will continue until the end of August, said officials with Public Service Electric & Gas.

All work will be done on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., they said.

If you’re headed south on Bergenline, you’ll be detoured west (right turn) onto 34th Street to Kennedy Boulevard. From there, you figure it out.

Actually, you could make a left on 32nd Street and head back toward Bergenline, but do you really want to do that?

NJ Transit will post bus detours and cops will be detailed to keep the traffic flowing and the attitudes bottled.
